Phil Webb, who served as Cal Poly’s Interim Director ofAthletics for four months following the retirement of Alison Cone,has served as Senior Associate Director of Athletics since2005.
Webb joined the department in 1995 as Assistant Director ofAthletics for Business. His duties include overseeing all businessand finance operations for the department, administering thescholarship program, supervising nine sports, and overseeing theevents, facilities and equipment room operations.
Webb arrived at Cal Poly from California State University atFresno, where he served for seven years with the School ofAgricultural Sciences and Technology’s “CaliforniaAgricultural Technology Institute”, the final three years asthe institute’s director.
Prior to his tenure at Fresno State, Webb was employed in privateindustry as financial controller and chief financial officer forvarious corporations in the Fresno area.
Born in Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia), Webb studied accounting,economics and law at the University of Zimbabwe while employedunder articles of clerkship with a public accounting firm. Before immigrating to the United States in 1981, Webb spent fouryears in London working in the accounting and computingprofessions.
Webb and his wife Karen reside in San Luis Obispo. They havetwo children, Jonathan and Sara, both graduates of Cal Poly.
