Zach joined the Mustang Success Center in July 2018 as an Athletic Academic Advisor. His sport assignments include Men's Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Track & Field, Cross Country, Swimming & Diving, and Women’s Soccer. His main duties include academic advising, monitoring NCAA eligibility, coordinating and teaching UNIV 100 (first-year success seminar), and leading the student-athlete career / development efforts for Mustang student-athletes. He serves as the advisor for Chi Alpha Sigma (Xi), Cal Poly’s chapter of the National College Athlete Honor Society.
Prior to Cal Poly, Zach spent over three years at South Dakota State University working as an enrollment management specialist and wrestling coach. This included certification for the Dakota Return Child of Alumni program, executing processes pertaining to transcripts and graduation, and strategic enrollment management projects. On the mat, he assisted the South Dakota State University wrestling program from 2015-17. The Jackrabbits berthed 10 NCAA Championships qualifiers and yielded two All-Americans during this time, taking third place in the Big 12 Conference finals and 16th place at the NCAA Championships in 2017.
Reed is an active member of the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A), and a proud graduate of the 2022 Steve McDonnell Professional Development Institute (Leader/Manager) class. He serves N4A leadership in the Virtual Education and National Convention Working Groups, as well as the Academic Programs and Practices Committee. Zach also participates in the Mentorship Program annually, collaborating with seasoned and emerging professionals. He maintains membership in the National Academic Advisors Association (NACADA).
Originally from Le Mars, Iowa, Zach studied Secondary Spanish & Physical Education at Wayne State College (NE), earning a Bachelor of Arts in 2015. He added a Master of Education (Administration) from South Dakota State University in 2017. He currently resides in San Luis Obispo.
