Promoted from student manager, Yashwant Sathish Kumar is in his first season as the Cal Poly men’s basketball program’s director of analytics.
In his new role, Sathish Kumar hones his focus on delivering actionable insights to the coaching staff through data analysis, software development and film breakdown while also supporting decision-making in game strategy, roster construction and player development.
“Yash showed last season his value in film breakdown and statistical analysis as a student manager,” second-year Cal Poly head coach Mike DeGeorge said. “We’re thrilled he’ll be returning in an elevated role to help our program get to the next level.”
Sathish Kumar joined the Cal Poly program ahead of the 2023-24 season and, by the end of the year, was assisting with film and scouting reports. Sathish Kumar was then promoted to video and analytics coordinator for the 2024-25 season during DeGeorge’s first year.
Sathish Kumar spent the summer of 2025 with the Calgary Surge of the Canadian Elite Basketball League as a strategy and analytics associate.
A June 2025 graduate from Cal Poly in computer science, Sathish Kumar – a proud Tamilan – was born in Chennai, India. A Bay Area native, Sathish Kumar played basketball at Wilcox HS in Santa Clara.
