
No. 4 Mustangs Open Chanticleer Classic with Pair of Wins

CONWAY, SC — The Cal Poly beach volleyball team got off to a strong start at the Chanticleer Classic in South Carolina Friday, winning both of its matches.
The No. 4 Mustangs took down Georgia State 4-1 before sweeping host Coastal Carolina 5-0 to round out the day. All nine of Cal Poly’s points on the day came in straight sets. The only loss was in three sets.
In the first match of the day against Georgia State, it was the duo of Izzy Martinez and Logan Walter winning at the No. 1 spot. Ella Connor and Erin Inskeep were dominant at the No. 2 spot, winning 21-13, 21-6. The transfer duo of Julia Westby and Ashleigh Adams won their match at the No. 3 spot to move to 4-2 together. At the No. 5 spot, it was Hannah Byers and Maddy Byrne rounding out the straight set wins.
Against Coastal Carolina, it was the duos of Martinez/Walter and Connor/Inskeep flip flopping spots and each collecting victories. Both pairs are now 9-1 together on the season.
At the No. 3 spot, it was Quinn Perry with Asheigh Adams as the duo won in straight sets to improve to 4-0 together. At the No. 4 spot, it was Julia Westby and Elise Lenahan winning to push their record to 3-0. It was once again Byers and Byrne winning at the No. 5 spot to improve to 3-0 as a pair.
Cal Poly continues play at the Chanticleer Classic Saturday with two more matches. They will first face Tulane at 5 a.m. PT followed by No. 15 FAU at 7 a.m. PT.
