LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Koda Holeman earned a technical fall, Ceasar Garza capped off an unbeaten season in duals, but Cal Poly wrestling fell to No. 12 Little Rock 30-8 on Sunday in the team’s final dual of the season.
Seven of the 10 bouts in the dual between the Pac-12 rivals were won by decision, however, the Mustangs (4-5, 1-2 Pac-12) were only able to win one of those matches which allowed a talented Little Rock squad boasting six nationally ranked wrestlers to pull away from Cal Poly.
Holeman helped the Mustangs get off to a roaring start during Little Rock’s Senior Night, completely dominating Jeremiah Reno at 125 pounds. The Clovis, Calif. native secured four takedowns and a 4-point near fall en route to a 17-2 technical fall victory at 5:31. It was his third technical fall win in a dual this season and he improved to 17-5 this season.
Cal Poly took a 5-0 lead with Holeman’s win, but the Trojans were able to win the next six bouts to separate themselves from the Mustangs. Five of those six victories came by decision with hard-fought battles at 133, 149, 157, 165 and 174 pounds. No. 33 Andre Gonzales at 149 and No. 33 Jagger French at 157 both came up short to ranked opponents by decision, while Anthony Berg truly gave All-American and No. 5-ranked Matty Bianchi everything he could handle at 165, falling by a 7-2 decision.
Garza halted Little Rock’s winning streak with a thrilling triumph at 184 pounds. Trailing 9-8 in the third period after being taken down by Little Rock’s Kodiak Cannedy, Garza was able to earn a reversal with less than 30 seconds left in the match to secure an 10-9 decision. The victory allowed Garza to finish the season with a perfect 8-0 record in duals. He improved to 16-2 overall on the season as well.
Little Rock earned a fall at 197 and a decision at heavyweight to close out the dual.
A number of Mustangs will travel to Tulare next Sunday, March 22, to take part in the Last Chance Open hosted by Cal State Bakersfield. After that event is over, Cal Poly will prepare to host the 2026 Pac-12 Championships on Friday, March 6 at the Mott Athletics Center. Prelims start at 12:30 p.m. with championship finals set to get underway at 6 p.m. You can purchase tickets to the conference championships now HERE.
