3 Mustangs Place 1st in Weight Class at Last Chance Open

TULARE, Calif. — Three Mustangs placed first in their respective weight classes to highlight action for the Cal Poly wrestling team at the California Last Chance Open hosted by Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday at Mission Oak High School.
The tournament provided wrestlers in the region with one last opportunity to get some matches in prior to postseason action starting.
Cash Stewart captured first at 174 pounds, Mark Ayala won the 184-pound title and Tyler Hodges took first at 197. Luke Gayer (165), Ryan Clink (174) and Cole Jackson (285) all finished second in their respective weight classes.
Cal Poly will now prepare to host the 2026 Pac-12 Championships on Friday, March 6, at the Mott Athletics Center. Prelims start at 12:30 p.m. with championship finals set to get underway at 6 p.m. You can purchase tickets to the conference championships now HERE.
