
Mustangs Drop Thursday Contest at UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. — Freshman forward Charish Thompson recorded her fourth straight double digit scoring game, but the Cal Poly women’s basketball team fell Thursday evening on the road at UC Irvine, 84-39.
Thompson scored a team high 15 points in 28 minutes. Sophomore guard Vanessa McManus finished with eight points while freshman guard Katie Pieffer added seven points.
Meanwhile, UC Irvine had three players in double figures, as the Anteaters shot 45 percent from the field and knocked down 14 threes.
The Mustangs hung tight with UC Irvine in the first quarter, staying within four heading into the second. However, the Anteaters started to pull away in the second after outscoring Cal Poly 25-9 in the quarter to lead 44-24 at the half. UC Irvine continued to build on their lead in the second half.
The Mustangs will stay on the road Saturday to take on rival UC Santa Barbara. Tip from the Thunderdome is set for 2 p.m.
