SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After a dominant showing in a victory over Duke, redshirt junior Ceasar Garza has been crowned the Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week.
This is the second time Garza has won the award this season, marking the third straight year that a Mustang wrestler has claimed the honor multiple times during a season with Zeth Romney doing so each of the past two years.
Garza, who won the weekly award for the first time in his career on Nov. 25, had a stellar performance in Saturday’s 28-16 dual win over the Blue Devils, earning six takedowns, a reversal and a riding time point in a commanding 21-5 technical fall victory at 4:24 over Duke’s David Hussey.
The 16th-ranked wrestler in the country at 184 pounds according to The Open Mat, Garza improved to an impressive 13-2 on the season with Saturday’s triumph and remains unbeaten in duals (5-0).
Garza and the Mustangs travel to Pac-12 rival Oregon State on Saturday at 2 p.m. to take on the Beavers in Corvallis.
