Mustangs Breeze to Win Over Cal, Secure Second Power-4 Sweep of Season

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Mustangs (5-3) defeated their second set of Bears in as many days with a dominant sweep (25-21, 25-22, 25-17) over California. The straight-set win marks Cal Poly's second over a Power-4 opponent this season.
Cal Poly's victory was built on a foundation of superior offensive efficiency and consistent defense. The Mustang attackers were potent, finishing the match with 44 kills and a .385 hitting percentage, significantly outperforming Cal's .196.
Defensively, Cal Poly was equally impressive, racking up 39 digs and 10.0 total team blocks. Emme Bullis, Chloe Leluge, and Charlotte Kelly led the effort, combining for 11 block assists.
Kendall Beshear led all players with a match-high 14 kills while hitting .429. Leluge was also highly efficient, finishing with 10 kills on a .529 hitting percentage to go with four total blocks. Her hitting clip puts her second in the conference through Friday evening.
Emma Fredrick added 11 kills and nine digs. Bullis directed the offense with 32 assists, averaging more than 10 per set for the second straight match, and contributed a match-high 10 digs.
After falling into an early 10-7 hole in the first set, the Mustangs found their rhythm and tied the match at 14. They took their first lead at 15-14 and never looked back, closing out the set 25-21 behind several key kills from Beshear.
The second set proved tighter, though Cal Poly built a 20-15 advantage. California mounted a fierce 7-4 run to narrow the gap to 24-22, but the Mustangs held on to clinch the set 25-22 on a Golden Bear service error.
Cal Poly left no doubt in the third, racing to a 13-8 lead and never relenting. The offense was nearly flawless, hitting .533 with 17 kills against just one error. Beshear sealed the 25-17 set victory, and the match sweep, with one final kill.
After opening the Mustang Invitational with a pair of sweeps, Cal Poly enjoys a day off before returning to Mott Athletics Center for a matchup against San Jose State on Sunday.
