White Defeats Green 1-0 in Annual Intrasquad Scrimmage

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — A goal from sophomore Kiki Vostermans in the 50th minute was the difference as White defeated Green 1-0 in the annual intrasquad scrimmage for the Cal Poly women’s soccer program on Saturday at Mustang Memorial Field Presented by Dignity Health French Hospital at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
The Mustangs’ roster was split in half to create the Green and White teams for the scrimmage and two 30-minute halves were played.
After a scoreless first half that saw just a combined three shots between the two teams, action picked up in the final half as both sides started to find a rhythm.
With 10 minutes remaining in the scrimmage, White broke through for the game’s only goal. Vostermans buried a shot to the bottom of the net off a pass from senior Madelyn Dougherty to give White a 1-0 lead. Last year, Vostermans tallied one goal and two assists in the intrasquad scrimmage as a true freshman to propel Green to a 3-1 victory over White.
Green attempted to find an equalizer down the stretch as junior Annika Smith generated a pair of dangerous shots in the box, but it wasn’t enough.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Shannon Porubski finished with three saves for White, while redshirt junior goalkeeper Alyssa Szarlacki made a save for Green.
Following the scrimmage, the team held a penalty shootout between the squads with Green emerging victorious 5-3 thanks to goals from seniors Jessie Halladay and Brennan Cole, Smith and sophomores Ashley Brewer and Avery Chaney.
The Mustangs welcome San Francisco to Spanos Stadium at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6, for their lone home exhibition match, and then wrap up preseason prep next Saturday, Aug. 9, with an exhibition at Pepperdine. Cal Poly heads to University of San Diego at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, to officially open its 2025 season before returning to Spanos just a few days later for its home opener against perennial powerhouse BYU at 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 18.
