Greensboro, N.C. (ABCA) — Cal Poly senior second baseman Ryan Fenn and sophomore third baseman Alejandro Garza, both of whom had 90 or more hits, compiled hitting streaks of 20 or more games, combined for 57 multiple-hit contests and batted above .350 for the 2025 season, have earned All-West Region honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association.
Fenn landed on the first team while Garza was awarded a spot on the second unit. The pair earned first-team All-Big West Conference honors last month — Garza for the second straight year and Fenn adding to his pair of honorable mentions.
Fenn hit a team-leading .365 and also led the Mustangs with 19 doubles and 15 steals in 22 attempts. He ended the year with a 22-game hitting streak, going 41-for-92 (.446), and the streak included a run of seven games with multiple hits (19-for-31, .613). Fenn also had a 14-game streak snapped by UC Santa Barbara and produced 18- and 11-game hitting streaks last year.
Fenn went 9-for-21 in five games on his way to MVP honors in the Big West Conference Championship at Cal State Fullerton. He is the first Mustang to earn ABCA All-West Region First Team honors since Brooks Lee in 2022 and the sixth overall (Lee twice).
Fenn’s 25 multiple-hit games including 14 with three hits and a four-hit contest in the first round of the Big West tournament against the host Titans. The Granite Hills (El Cajon, Calif.) High School graduate played one season and utilized a redshirt year at Cuesta College before transferring to Cal Poly in the fall of 2022.
One of three Mustangs to start all 62 games this season, Garza finished the year with 32 multiple-hit games, two shy of the school record set by Scott Kidd in 1997. He compiled a 20-game hitting streak from mid-March through the end of April, hitting .409 during the run, and hit .423 during a 16-game hitting streak in May, finishing the year with hits in 39 of his last 41 contests.
Garza, who did not hit a home run en route to Big West Freshman Field Player of the Year honors in 2024, erupted for six homers as a sophomore and finished the year with a .351 average, leading the team with 92 hits and 57 runs scored. His 54 RBIs were second on the squad and Garza was one of the toughest hitters in the nation to strike out, finishing ninth with one strikeout every 16.4 at-bats.
Garza, a graduate of Highland High School in Bakersfield, will be playing for the Orleans Firebirds in the Cape Cod League this summer.
Joining Fenn on the ABCA All-West Region first team from other Big West schools is UC Santa Barbara pitcher Tyler Bremner. With Garza on the second team are outfielder Jacob McCombs, starting pitcher Trevor Hansen and relief pitchers Max Martin and Ricky Ojeda, all of UC Irvine.
Ryan Fenn and Alejandro Garza both had an outstanding year and were major reasons why we were so successful as a team. Offensively, they produced at the top of the lineup, setting the tone for the hitters that followed. This is a well-deserved honor for both of them.Head Coach Larry Lee
