HENDERSON, Nev. – After averaging 16.3 points per three games and helping the Cal Poly men’s basketball program to its first Big West Championship semifinal appearance 11 years, graduate guard Jarred Hyder became the first Mustang since 2014 to earn Big West Championship All-Tournament Team honors.
The program’s second leading scorer this past season with 14.5 points per game, Hyder knocked down four three-pointers as part of a 16-point performance in Cal Poly’s 86-76, Big West Championship opening-round victory against sixth-seeded UC Davis (March 12).
One night later, Hyder became Cal Poly’s all-time single season three-point leader in a 96-83 quarterfinal victory against UC Riverside after connecting four times from deep and finishing with 18 points and a career best nine assists.
Hyder closed Cal Poly’s run at the Big West Championship with 15 points against UC Irvine as the Mustangs were eliminated by the eventual runner-up Anteaters, 96-78 (March 14).
Hyder, who departs as Cal Poly’s single season leader with 99 three-pointers and 279 three-point attempts, became the program’s first Big West Championship team selection since 2014 when forward Chris Eversley was named Most Valuable Player and guard David Nwaba earned all-tournament team praise for the title-winning Mustangs.
