
Shah, Carter Earn All-Big West Honors

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – After each having strong individual seasons, two Cal Poly women’s basketball players earned All-Big West honors Tuesday – senior guard Annika Shah and sophomore forward Mary Carter.
Shah was named Second Team All-Big West while Carter earned Honorable Mention All-Big West honors.
This season, Shah leads the Mustangs and is sixth in the Big West in scoring at 13.4 points per game. One of the best shooters in the country, Shah leads the Big West in threes made per game while being second in three-point percentage and sixth in field goal percentage.
She’s had six games of scoring over 20 points and 18 games in double figures. She also has led the Mustangs in assists and free throw percentage.
Shah has had a legendary career at Cal Poly. She ranks eighth all-time in scoring with 1,134 career points. She will also set the program record for career free throw percentage, currently at 93 percent. She’s now a two-time All-Big West honoree after getting Honorable Mention honors last season.
Carter’s taken a big jump in her second season with the Mustangs. After earning Big West All-Freshman Team honors last year, she improved her scoring this season to be second on the team at 13.1 points per game which ranks seventh in the Big West.
Carter, who was named Big West Player of the Week this week, is second on the team in three-point shooting, ranks second in the Big West in field goal percentage at 43 percent. She leads the team in blocks and is eighth in the Big West in that category. She’s had 22 double digit scoring games and three double doubles so far this season.
Cal Poly will begin its quest for a Big West postseason title in Henderson, Nev. Wednesday in the first round of the Big West Championships when they face UCSB at 12 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ as well as locally on ESPN Radio 1280AM and GoPoly.com
