SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After taking down the defending Pac-12 champion to capture the 184-pound title at the Roadrunner Open, redshirt junior Ceasar Garza has been named the Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week for the first time in his career.
Garza is the first Mustang to win the award since Koda Holeman secured the honor on Dec. 31, 2024.
The Michigan State transfer went a perfect 4-0 en route to claiming the 184-pound championship at the Roadrunner Open hosted by Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday. With a minute left in the third period of the 184-pound title match, Garza used a single-leg takedown to defeat the defending Pac-12 champion and 30th-ranked TJ McDonnell from Oregon State by an 8-6 decision.
At the tournament, Garza also earned a 17-2 technical fall over Cal Poly Humboldt's Sage Adie, a fall at 3:54 over Menlo's Joseph Estrada and an 11-6 decision over Stanford's Tye Monteiro in the semifinals.
Garza is currently ranked No. 21 in the nation at 184 pounds by InterMat and is 6-0 this season.
Garza and the Mustangs return to action on Dec. 5-6 to take part in the prestigious Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas.
