SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — In its lone preseason tuneup, the Cal Poly men’s basketball team saw Hamad Mousa pour in a game-high 25 points — including 17 in the first half — to lead the Mustangs to a 97-86 exhibition victory over Division II Cal State East Bay on Friday afternoon inside Mott Athletics Center.
Playing in front of hundreds of local elementary students as part of the program’s field trip game, the Mustangs put on an offensive display, knocking down 10 of their 19 3-point attempts and shooting 58.3 percent from the field, including over 65 percent in the second half.
Mousa, a sophomore transfer from Dayton, had quite the day in his first action in a Cal Poly uniform, grabbing a game-high five rebounds to go along with his 25 points and 4-of-5 shooting from 3-point range across 26 minutes of play.
Four other Mustangs reached double figures — sophomore Peter Bandelj scored 16 points and dished out eight of Cal Poly’s 20 assists in the game, sophomore Cayden Ward tallied 13 points, sophomore Guzman Vasilic added 12 points and junior Jake Davis finished with 10.
The Mustangs will get just over a week to prepare for their 2025-26 season opener at USC on Monday, Nov. 3, at 6:30 p.m. before returning to Mott on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. to host Division III Pacific Lutheran in their home opener.
