
Mustangs Climb Leaderboard Tuesday at Saint Mary’s Invite

SEASIDE – Highlighted by sophomore Nolan Kuszyk climbing 11 positions into 11th place during Tuesday’s second round at the Saint Mary’s Invitational, all six Cal Poly men’s golfers improved their leaderboard standing as the Mustangs – as a team – improved three spots.
At the par-72, 7,104-yard Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Club, Kuszyk carded six birdies Tuesday for a two-under 70 and a two-round, two-under 142. Kuszyk enters Wednesday’s final round five shots shy of overall leader Thomas Schmidt of Arkansas State.
Junior Louis Pilod produced three birdies as part of a one-over 73. With a one-over 145, Pilod shares 27th spot. Junior Jack Jarvis added three birdies and finished with a two-over 74 and improved three spots to 37th with a two-over 146.
Three Mustangs share 58th spot with seven-over 151s. Freshman Rafael Bobo-Lloret was Cal Poly’s biggest mover Tuesday, jumping 23 spots with an even-par 72. Freshman Zihao Wang was three over Tuesday while junior Leo Metzger – competing as an independent – tallied five birdies for a two-over 74.
As a team, Cal Poly posted the third lowest score among the field’s 16 programs with a one-over 289. The Mustangs now sit eighth, 12 shots behind second-place Santa Clara.
Wednesday’s final round at the Saint Mary’s Invitational gets underway at 8:20 a.m.
