
Cal Poly Softball Selected Fifth in Big West Preseason Poll

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Returning four positional starters from a year ago, the Cal Poly softball program was selected fifth in the 2025 Big West preseason coaches’ poll on Thursday afternoon.
Also welcoming back a pair of All-Big West honorees from 2024 in senior catcher Julia Barnett and junior outfielder Kiara Blanchard, Cal Poly – which finished third last season with 18 conference wins – earned 45 points in the preseason poll, finishing seven votes shy of Hawai’i.
Long Beach State, last season’s Big West runner-up, took top spot in Thursday’s poll release with 81 total points and nine of 10 first-place votes. Defending champion Cal State Fullerton earned 63 points and the remaining first-place vote. UC Santa Barbara was third on 59 points.
Following Cal Poly, the bottom half of the poll was comprised of UC San Diego (43 points), CSUN (41), UC Davis (38), UC Riverside (17) and Cal State Bakersfield (11).
Cal Poly begins its 51st varsity season when hosting the Feb. 6-9 Mustang Classic at Bob Janssen Field. Action gets underway Thursday, Feb. 6 against Ball State at 5 p.m.
