2024-25 Opening Games
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Headlined by 14 home matchups inside Mott Athletics Center, 15 contests against programs that won 20-plus games a year ago and four opponents that captured regular season conference titles last season, the Cal Poly men’s basketball program – under the direction of first-year head coach Mike DeGeorge – released its 2024-25 regular season schedule on Friday morning.
Cal Poly’s 2024-25 schedule also includes three programs that reached last year’s NCAA Tournament (Saint Mary’s, Grambling, Long Beach State), two that qualified for the NIT (San Francisco, UC Irvine) and 2024 College Basketball Insider postseason tournament champion Seattle.
After hosting Cal Tech for a Friday, Oct. 25 exhibition, Cal Poly opens the regular season at San Francisco (23-11, 11-5 WCC last season) on Tuesday, Nov. 5 and California (13-19, 9-11 Pac-12) on Thursday, Nov. 7. San Francisco fell at Cincinnati during the opening round of last season’s NIT while Cal Poly’s matchup with California is just its third against a current ACC program in the last 24 years after the Golden Bears – alongside Stanford, whom the Mustangs visit on Saturday, Nov. 30 – departed the Pac-12 Conference during the offseason.
Cal Poly’s 14-game home stretch begins on Sunday, Nov. 10 versus NAIA Menlo College (19-9, 7-7 GSAC) and continues on Thursday, Nov. 14 versus Seattle (23-14, 11-9 WAC), which outlasted High Point to capture last year’s CBI postseason title.
A three-game road trip follows at reigning Big Sky Conference regular season champion Eastern Washington (21-11, 15-3) on Sunday, Nov. 17, Arizona State (14-18, 8-12 Pac-12) on Wednesday, Nov. 20 and Saint Mary’s (26-8, 15-1 WCC) on Saturday, Nov. 23. Arizona State marks Cal Poly’s first matchup with a current Big 12 Conference program since a 2012 visit to TCU (the Sun Devils also departed the Pac-12 in the offseason). Saint Mary’s, meanwhile, captured both last season’s WCC regular season and tournament titles before being eliminated in the first round of the NCAA Tournament by Grand Canyon.
A second straight NCAA Tournament qualifier follows in Grambling (21-15, 14-4 SWAC), which visits Cal Poly on Tuesday, Nov. 26. After winning both the SWAC regular season and tournament titles last year, the Tigers – in their first NCAA Tournament appearance – topped Montana State in the First Four before falling to eventual national runner-up, Purdue.
