Fenn was 1-4 with those three RBIs. Junior catcher Ryan Stafford, who was just ranked the 17th best catcher in college baseball, was 2-4 on the night with two RBIs. Jake Steels and Joe Yorke accounted for Cal Poly's other two RBIs. Yorke is now just four RBIs away from becoming the program's all-time leader in that category.
Despite going down 6-1 heading into the fifth, the Mustangs fought their way back to tie it 7-7 after scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Trailing 7-4, the Mustangs put a rally together in the bottom of the ninth. They got the first three batters aboard to load the bases. With one out, Steels and Stafford each then walked with the bases loaded to make it 7-6. Fenn then grounded into a fielder's choice but beat the throw to first to bring in the tying run.
With the bases loaded and two outs, Alejandro Garza grounded out to short to send it to extra innings.
In the top of the 10th, San Diego State got the leadoff hitter on who was later brought in to score on an RBI single. In Cal Poly's half of the 10th Aaron Casillas singled to get on and made it to second base but was left stranded there as the Aztecs were able to hold Cal Poly off the board.
The Mustangs, who are tied for second in the Big West standings, resume conference play this weekend when they go on the road for a three-game series against UC Riverside beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m. with Jakob Wright on the mound.
