No. 5 Mustangs Begin Quest for Big West Title Thursday

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif – Following a strong regular season, Cal Poly beach volleyball heads into the Big West Championship as the No. 1 seed this week in Long Beach.
The No. 5 Mustangs finished off the regular season with a 27-5 record. A great season filled with wins against No. 7 Long Beach State, No. 11 Hawaii, No. 8 Cal, No. 9 LMU, and No. 6 TCU. At one point during the season, they had a winning streak of 16 matches, the longest winning streak in the nation.
A season of competitions prepares the Mustangs for the Big West Championship tournament. They head into the tournament hoping to earn their fourth Big West Championship in the last five years. Their trip down to Long Beach City Community College starts by competing against CSUN and UC Davis on Thursday, April 25. The CSUN match is at 10:45 a.m., and UC Davis competition will begin at 5 p.m. The pool play on Thursday will determine who plays and when on Friday.

Cal Poly had many pairs with success this season. Ella Connor and Izzy Martinez wrapped up this season with a 23-7 record, including seven wins of the last ten matches. Piper Ferch and Erin Inskeep dominated the season resulting in a 26-4 record. A well-earned record of 21-3 came from the duo Piper Naess and Logan Walter. Naess and Walter concluded the season with a winning streak of 18 matches. The final pair with a strong winning season is Quinn Perry and Lindsey Sparks with a 13-4 record.
During this competitive season, three pairs were rewarded with Big West Pair of the Week honors. The first pair to win was Quinn Perry and Linsey Sparks in early March. Later that month, Ella Connor and Izzy Martinez received the second honor. The third pair to receive Pair of the Week was Piper Naess and Logan Walter.
Cal Poly will wait to see their name called for the NCAA Championship tournament happening May 3-5 in Gulf Shores, Ala. The announcement will be made this Sunday, April 28 at 8 a.m PT on NCAA.com.
