The Mustangs (5-5, 1-4 Pac-12) finished off their Pac-12 dual slate Sunday at Stanford, falling 30-9 to the 16th-ranked Cardinal.
Cal Poly, who is receiving votes in the latest NWCA Coaches Poll, is looking to end a three-match losing streak when they face the Lancers.
The Mustangs still boast six nationally ranked wrestlers, including three who are ranked in the top 15. Graduate student Adam Kemp (174 pounds) and redshirt sophomore Chance Lamer (149 pounds) are both ranked No. 9 in their respective weight classes. Kemp is a perfect 3-0 in duals this season while Chance suffered his first defeat in a dual this past week. Chance is 14-3 overall this year and 8-2 in duals. He leads the team in takedowns in duals with a whopping 35.
Redshirt freshman Zeth Romney (No. 11, 133 pounds), redshirt sophomore Trevor Tinker (No. 22, 285), redshirt junior Legend Lamer (No. 31, 157) and redshirt freshman Dom Mendez (No. 31, 125) are all nationally ranked as well. Tinker owns a 5-1 record in duals this year.
Cal Baptist is 4-9 in duals and 1-6 in the Big 12 this season, and most recently suffered a 36-9 home loss to No. 17 Northern Iowa this past Friday. Two weeks ago, the Lancers earned their first ranked victory in program history by defeating No. 19 Air Force 21-15 in Colorado. Cal Baptist has also lost to No. 4 Iowa, No. 5 Iowa State, No. 11 South Dakota State, Northern Colorado and North Dakota State in conference play.
The Lancers are led by redshirt sophomore Elijah Griffin, who is ranked 28th in the nation at 125 pounds. Griffin is 16-7 this year and 7-6 in duals, and will square off against Mendez on Friday in a battle between a pair of ranked opponents.
Following Friday's dual, Tinker and graduate student Michael Goldfeder will head to the Patriot Last Chance Open hosted by George Mason University on Feb. 25.
