SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Mustangs notched their third and fourth consecutive sweeps last weekend to clinch a spot in the Big West Championship bracket with two matches in hand.
In helping Cal Poly make another conference postseason, Elif Hurriyet captured her second weekly honor of the year with Big West Freshman of the Week while Tommi Stockham collected her seventh career Offensive Player of the Week nod.
Hurriyet was once again the defensive backbone of the Mustangs last weekend, notching her 17th and 18th double-digit dig totals this season with 11 apiece in helping Cal Poly extend its sweep streak to four matches.
In routing UC Irvine on Saturday, Hurriyet tallied a career-high seven assists and co-led the match with three service aces. She put together a per-set pace of 3.67 digs, raising her season mark to 3.50 per set for 8th in the Big West.
Stockham was on fire this weekend with 5.33 kills per set for 32 total kills while also third on the team through the two matches with 11 digs.
In her final home game at Mott Athletics Center, she played arguably her best match of the season, hammering down 18 kills to reset her season-high in a three-set game while hitting .500 and collecting seven digs, the second most on the team. That takes her per-set pace to 3.71, which separates her as the second-best in the conference.
