Cal Poly Pulls Away from Menlo for 99-66 Sunday Win

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Graduate guard Jarred Hyder (above) led four Mustangs in double-digit scoring figures with 19 points Sunday evening as the Cal Poly men's basketball program opened its 14-game home schedule inside Mott Athletics Center with a 99-66 victory against Division II Menlo College.
Freshman guard Peter Bandelj added a career high 15 points and team leading nine rebounds for the Mustangs (1-2), who shot 54.9 (39-for-57) percent from the floor while holding Menlo to a 33.3 (26-for-78) percent clip. Graduate guard Mac Riniker finished with 12 points for the Mustangs while senior forward Paul Bizimana chipped in with 11.
Cal Poly completes a two-game home stand when welcoming Seattle on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m.
The Mustangs shot 51.6 (16-for-312) percent from the floor during Sunday's opening half, but led the Oaks at the break, 40-36. Back-to-back jumpers from graduate guard Owen Koonce, however, spurred a 13-3 run from the Mustangs to begin the second half as Cal Poly maintained a double-digit advantage the remainder of the evening.
Outrebounding Menlo, 58-29, the Mustangs shot 57.5 (23-for-40) during the second half.
