SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After posting season-high times in the 100 and 200 breast during Cal Poly's first pair of meets in 2024-25, Evan Yoo has earned the first Big West Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week award.
Yoo, the standout junior transfer who made waves after earning Cal Poly's King of the Pool a few weeks ago, captured a pair of event wins (1000 free and 200 breast) and helped Cal Poly to a second place finish in the 400 medley relay. In winning the 200 breast, Yoo posted the third-fastest time in program history (1:58.64), as well as the Division I fifth-fastest time so far this year. Yoo's performance was a large reason that Cal Poly beat UC Santa Barbara in a dual-meet (151-143) for the first time since 2021-22.
Yoo transferred from the United States Military Academy after taking an off-year in 2023-24 to participate in a local swimming club and train in anticipation of arriving at Cal Poly. Since making the switch, Yoo has quickly become one of Cal Poly's newcomers to watch after beating all breaststroke participants on the national championship runners-up (Cal) and subsequently winning this weekly award for his performance against UCSB.
