SANTA CLARITA, Calif. — Redshirt freshmen Jude DeVries and Lianna Guerra had standout performances to highlight action for the Cal Poly cross country program at The Master’s Invitational on Saturday.
A total of nine runners competed in the meet for the Mustangs — five men and four women. Cal Poly’s top runners raced in the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational on Friday in Chicago.
The five runners on the men’s side helped Cal Poly secure a second-place finish as a team (55 points). DeVries led the way by placing fifth with an 8K personal best (24:24.2). Redshirt sophomore Carson Smith was close behind in seventh (24:33.9), redshirt freshman Dheeraj Gurusamy earned 13th (24.49.6), redshirt senior Rory Smail took 14th (24:50.2) and redshirt freshman Micah Sanchez grabbed 16th (24:54.4).
On the women’s side, Guerra was the first Mustang to cross the finish line, placing fourth (21:38.1). Freshman Renae Searls (21:47.8) finished ninth, redshirt junior Nina St. John 15th (22:19.4) and freshman Nikki Bridges 26th (22:55.9).
The Mustangs will now prepare for their final action before competing in the Big West Championships on Nov. 2, splitting the team between two meets on Saturday, Oct. 19 — the NCAA Pre-Nationals hosted by Wisconsin and the Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara.
