SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly cross country program will send its top eight runners on the men’s side to the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet hosted by Wisconsin on Saturday while the rest of the team is set to race in Santa Clara at the Bronco Invitational.
The two meets will mark the Mustangs’ final action of the regular season before they travel to UC Riverside on Saturday, Nov. 2, for the Big West Championships hosted at UCR’s Ag/Ops Course.
Davis Bove, Chris Caudillo, Aidan McCarthy, Rory Catsimanes, Colton Swinth, Anthony Guerra, Michael Chambers and Bryce Kueker are all scheduled to compete for the Mustang men at Pre-Nationals hosted by the University of Wisconsin at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course, the site of this year’s NCAA Championship meet. Based on the latest USTFCCCA Coaches Poll, 19 of the top 30 teams in the country are slated to compete in the meet, including seven in the top 10 and 13 in the top 20.
The men’s 8K “A” race starts at 8:40 a.m. PDT Saturday. You can watch the race live on RunnerSpace+ with the purchase of a subscription or follow the live results here.
The Cal Poly men received two national votes in the latest USTFCCCA Poll, marking the third straight year the team has garnered national votes during the season. The recognition came on the heels of a strong performance at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational in Chicago on Oct. 4, where the Mustangs captured fourth and only finished behind three teams ranked in the top 18 nationally. Bove led the way in his season debut, placing sixth overall with an 8K personal best time of 22:56.41 to earn Big West Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors for the third time in his career.
While Cal Poly’s top runners on the men’s side will be racing in Wisconsin, the rest of the team will be in Sunnyvale, Calif. for the Bronco Invitational on Saturday morning at Baylands Regional Park. Action starts at 8:45 a.m. with the men’s 8K with the women’s 6K to follow at 9:30 a.m. Six men and 15 women are entered in the meet for the Mustangs.
