Cal Poly Travels to Chicago to Battle Ranked Teams at Lakefront Invitational

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — With the Big West Championship less than a month away, the Cal Poly cross country program will split the team between a pair of meets this week.
Cal Poly’s top runners are set to race in the 45th Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational hosted by the Loyola University Chicago on Friday, while the rest of the Mustangs competing this week will take part in The Master’s Invitational on Saturday in Santa Clarita.
Action in Chicago, Illinois starts at 8 a.m. PDT Friday with the women’s championship 6K, followed by the men’s championship 8K at 8:40 a.m. PDT. On the women’s side, the Mustangs are set to battle No. 1 NC State, No. 10 Wisconsin, No. 15 Alabama, No. 29 Texas and Minnesota, who received votes in the latest national coaches poll. The Cal Poly men will take the line against three ranked teams in Chicago — No. 10 Alabama, No. 14 Butler and No. 18 Wisconsin. On Saturday at Central Park in Santa Clarita, racing starts at 8 a.m. with the men’s 8K, followed by the women’s 6K at 8:45 a.m.

Following this week’s action, Cal Poly will split the squad again for its final action of the regular season, sending runners to the Pre-Nationals meet hosted by Wisconsin and the Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara on Saturday, Oct. 19.
