IRVINE, Calif. — During a 1-1 week in which the Mustangs pulled off a huge comeback victory over Long Beach State to help themselves stay tied for second in the conference, Elif Hurriyet was massively important as a defensive force in the back row.
Cal Poly's regular libero, Hurriyet had a fantastic weekend in helping the Mustangs hold their pair of opponents to a combined .165 hitting percentage while the true freshman tallied 41 total digs for 4.56 per set.
Not only did she collect double-digit digs in both matches, but she also set a new career-high of 28 digs, which is tied for the sixth-most in a single Big West match of 2024.
Arguably one of the Big West’s best freshmen this season, Hurriyet currently sits 8th in the conference for digs (3.47 per set) while having two of the top-15 single-game dig totals for 2024.
Some well-deserved flowers ?? should be given to Elif Hurriyet, as the true freshman libero earns Big West Defensive Player of the Week! ??#RideHigh pic.twitter.com/S7P1bEiVpi
