SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly wrestling dominated Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday at Mott Athletics Center, winning nine of 10 bouts en route to a 43-3 Pac-12 dual victory.
For the Mustangs (5-2, 1-1 Pac-12), it was their largest margin of victory in a dual against the Roadrunners (0-7, 0-3 Pac-12) in program history.
Three Mustangs secured falls against CSUB — redshirt freshman Zeth Romney, redshirt junior Legend Lamer and redshirt sophomore Chance Lamer.
Romney, the ninth-ranked 133-pounder in the country, earned the first pin of the day at the 1:47 mark of his match. It was Romney's seventh straight victory and he improved to 17-5 on the season.
The Lamer brothers grabbed back-to-back pins at 149 and 157 pounds. Chance, No. 5 in the nation in his weight class, got it started with a pin at 2:02 over Cal State Bakersfield's Brock Rogers. Chance had two takedowns to give him a team-high 32 in duals this season. The Corvallis, Ore. native remains undefeated (7-0) in duals this year and improved to 13-1 overall.
Legend nabbed the quickest fall on the day, pinning Devyn Flores-Che 1:16 into their match. The 31st-ranked 157-pounder in the country now owns a 10-4 record on the season.
Redshirt sophomore Abe Hinrichsen (141) and redshirt sophomore Dom Mendez (125) also secured victories by decision to help Cal Poly take a decisive 24-0 advantage through five bouts.
After graduate student Michael Goldfeder came up short at 165 pounds, freshman Blake Hinrichsen stepped on the mat at 174 and put on a show. In his first career dual as a Mustang, Hinrichsen earned seven takedowns in a 22-5 technical fall (4:44) victory.
Redshirt sophomore Kendall La Rosa accepted a forfeit at 182 pounds before Jarad Priest silenced his opponent at 197, capturing a 16-0 technical fall (2:40) victory thanks to three 4-point near falls.
Trevor Tinker capped off the impressive showing by the Mustangs by grabbing a 5-0 decision at heavyweight.
Cal Poly continues Pac-12 action on Saturday, Feb. 3, when the Mustangs travel to Arkansas to face Little Rock (10-4, 1-0 Pac-12).
