Cal Poly Comes Up Short Against UC Davis

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Senior Briana Medvecki won the 3-meter dive and freshman Olivia Sundgren secured the top spot in the 1000-yard freestyle as Cal Poly women's swimming and diving battled UC Davis in a dual Friday at Anderson Aquatic Center.
Less than a week after posting the second-best score in program history in the women's 1-meter dive, Medvecki won the 3-meter title (257.55) in Friday's dual against Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rival UC Davis. She also took second in the 1-meter.
Sundgren continued her impressive freshman campaign, grabbing first in the 1000 free (10:26.48) and third in the 400 individual medley. Sundgren is No. 4 all-time in the 1000 free.
Junior Taylor Lyon captured second in the 200 butterfly (2:08.20) and freshman Ella Bettencourt placed runner-up in the 100 backstroke (58.24). Senior Kelly McDermott (200 back), junior Summer Cheng (100 fly) and freshman Rhian Neitzel (200 breaststroke) all secured third-place finishes in their respective events.
Cal Poly fell to UC Davis 221-75.
The dual was the Mustangs' first home competition since hosting Blue-Green rival UC Santa Barbara on Oct. 6.
The full Mustang team returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 27, when Cal Poly travels to UC Santa Cruz for a noon dual.
