Pickren Crowned Big West Men's XC Athlete of the Week

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After capturing the individual title at the season-opening Big West Preview meet on Friday, Spencer Pickren has been named the Big West Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career.
During the men's 6K race at the Blacklake Golf Resort in Nipomo, the redshirt sophomore turned on the jets in the final few hundred meters to edge out teammate Will Fallini-Haas by less than a second at the finish line. Pickren took home first with a time of 18:01.7.
Pickren's performance allowed the Cal Poly men to capture the team title at the site of this year's Big West Championships.
The 2021 Jesuit High grad is fresh off an impressive season on the track this spring, where he ran the fifth-fastest 1,500-meter time in school history (3:43.29) at the Oxy Invitational to qualify for the NCAA West Preliminaries for the first time.
Pickren and the rest of the Mustangs return to action on Saturday, Oct. 16, to compete in the UC Riverside Invitational at UCR's Ags/Ops Course, the site of Cal Poly's 2022 Big West Championship sweep.
