
Mustang Men’s Basketball Unveils 2023-24 Schedule

VIEW COMPLETE 2023-24 SCHEDULE
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Highlighted by 14 home matchups inside Mott Athletics Center and six games against postseason qualifiers from a year ago, the Cal Poly men's basketball program released in 32-game regular season schedule for the 2023-24 season Thursday afternoon.
Cal Poly's regular season schedule also features three first-time opponents in Denver (Thursday, Nov. 9), Wyoming (Saturday, Nov. 11) and St. Thomas (Friday, Nov. 17), four matchups against Big Sky Conference programs, opposition from seven different conferences and a Monday, Dec. 4 visit to Oregon State.
Each of Cal Poly's 14 home games is scheduled to tip at 7 p.m., aside from a Saturday, Feb. 3 matchup with UC Davis (3 p.m.).
NON-CONFERENCE (NOVEMBER-DECEMBER)
Following a Thursday, Nov. 2 home exhibition versus Division II Cal State LA (11-17, 8-14 CCAA), Cal Poly enters its 80th season as a four-year program by hosting Division III La Verne (7-17, 4-12 SCIAC) on Monday, Nov. 6.
The Mustangs open a five-game road trip – their lengthiest of the year – with matchups at Denver (15-17, 6-12 Summit League) on Thursday, Nov. 9 and Wyoming (9-21, 4-14 Mountain West) on Saturday, Nov. 11. Cal Poly then takes part in California Baptist's Nov. 17-19 Lancer Joust, facing off with St. Thomas (19-14, 9-9 Summit), Portland State (12-19, 6-11 Big Sky) and host CBU (17-16, 8-10 WAC).
Cal Poly next returns home on Wednesday, Nov. 29 to host San Jose State (21-14, 10-8 MWC), which reached the quarterfinals of the 2023 College Basketball Invitational postseason tournament. Cal Poly previously hosted San Jose State in 2020 and 2011, prevailing against the Spartans both times.
The Mustangs begin December at former Big West foe Idaho (10-22, 4-14 Big Sky) on Saturday, Dec. 2 before visiting – for just the third time and first since 2006 – Oregon State (11-21, 5-15 Pac-12) on Monday, Dec. 4. The final road trip of 2023 concludes on Saturday, Dec. 9 at Weber State (18-15, 12-6 Big Sky).
Big West preparations will be completed inside Mott Athletics Center with Cal Poly hosting Eastern Washington (23-11, 16-2 Big Sky) on Monday, Dec. 18 and Omaha (9-23, 4-14 Summit) on Thursday, Dec. 21. Big Sky regular season champions a year ago, Eastern Washington reached the second round of the 2023 NIT. Cal Poly's matchup with Omaha marks just the second all-time matchup with the Mavericks and first since 1990.
BIG WEST CONFERENCE (DECEMBER-MARCH)
Opening its 30th year of Big West membership with three of the first four conference games inside Mott Athletics Center, Cal Poly starts league play against CSUN (7-25, 4-16) on Thursday, Dec. 28 before closing the calendar year at UC Davis (18-15, 11-8) on Saturday, Dec. 30.
Home matchups then follow with Long Beach State (17-16, 11-9) on Thursday, Jan. 4 and defending Big West co-regular season and tournament champion UC Santa Barbara (27-8, 15-5) on Saturday, Jan. 6. Seeded 14th for last year's NCAA Tournament, UC Santa Barbara fell in the first round to Baylor, 74-56.
Cal Poly's remaining home January matchups include a Saturday, Jan. 13 visit by UC San Diego (10-20, 5-13) and a Thursday, Jan. 25 matchup with Cal State Fullerton (20-13, 12-6).
The Mustangs close January with a Saturday, Jan. 27 trip to Hawai'i (22-11, 13-7) ahead of home contests with UC Irvine (23-12, 15-5) on Thursday, Feb. 1 and UC Davis on Saturday, Feb. 3. Splitting last year's regular season conference title with UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine qualified for the 2023 NIT, going out in the opening round at Oregon.
Cal Poly's remaining home dates come against Hawai'i (Thursday, Feb. 15), UC Riverside (Saturday, Feb. 24) and CSU Bakersfield (Saturday, March 2).

The 49th Big West Championship returns to the Dollar Loan Center (Henderson, Nev.) March 12-16. Seeds Nos. 7-10 will square off in opening-round games on Tuesday, March 12. The four quarterfinal matchups will take place on Thursday, March 14, the two semifinal pairings on Friday, March 15 with the championship game set for Saturday, March 16.
