LIVE RESULTS
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — The Cal Poly cross country program is back in action this Friday to compete in the prestigious Bill Dellinger Invitational hosted by Oregon at the Pine Ridge Golf Club.
The top runners on the men's and women's teams for the Mustangs will encounter some of the best schools in the West Region. The Cal Poly women will go head-to-head with three ranked teams — No. 6 BYU, No. 7 Oregon and No. 17 Oregon State. The men are set to square off against two ranked squads — No. 9 Portland and No. 15 Oregon.
The men's 8K will start at 11 a.m. Friday, followed by the women's 6K at 11:45 a.m. You can follow the live results here and a livestream is available through a subscription on RunnerSpace.com.
Four other Big West schools will also be participating in the meet — Cal State Fullerton, UC Davis, UC Riverside and UC Santa Barbara. Currently, the Mustangs are the highest ranked Big West team in the USTFCCCA West Region rankings on the both the men's (No. 7) and women's (No. 11) sides.
The last time the Mustangs were in action on Sept. 1, they showcased their recent dominance over the rest of the conference by sweeping the team titles at the season-opening Big West Preview meet held at the Blacklake Golf Resort in Nipomo, the site of this year's Big West Championships.
The women cruised to a 28-point victory over second-place UC Riverside and the men handled their business as well, earning a comfortable 18-point victory over rival UCSB. Spencer Pickren and Will Fallini-Haas finished first and second in the men's 6K race, while four runners placed inside the top 10 for the women, with Hana Catsimanes and Tatiana Cornejo leading the way by securing fourth and fifth respectively.
This fall, Cal Poly is looking to defend its Big West titles on the men's and women's sides and sweep the conference championship meet for the seventh time in program history.
Following Friday's meet, the Mustangs will take another three-week break in action to prepare for a pair of meets on Saturday, Oct. 14. Cal Poly will send its top runners to Charlottesville, Va. to take part in the XC23 Invitational, which will serve as this year's Pre-Nationals meet, while the rest of the team will race in the Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara.
