SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly women's soccer program was recognized by the United Soccer Coaches for its exemplary performance in the classroom during the 2022-23 academic year, earning a Team Academic Award from the organization this week.
The Mustangs were one of 500 teams in women's collegiate soccer to garner the distinction, posting a team GPA of 3.47 during the 2022-23 academic year.
In February, 13 Cal Poly women's soccer players earned 2022 Big West Fall All-Academic honors — Peja Balanon, Emma Brown, McKenna Carbon, Madison Demijohn, Annette Greenley, Megan Hansen, Camille Lafaix, Annie Larson, Emily Nedom, Olivia Ortiz, Kate Reedy, Kylie Rojas and Mackenzie Samuel. Lafaix was named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America Second Team as well — becoming the fourth player in program history to secure the distinction — while Rojas grabbed a United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-West Region Second Team selection.
Annually, United Soccer Coaches celebrates the academic achievements of teams whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full academic year. To receive the Team Academic Award, programs must record a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during an academic year.
