
Cal Poly Falls to No. 2 USC, No. 7 Stanford Sunday in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Playing two teams ranked in the top seven in the nation, Cal Poly beach volleyball ended the Battle for LA Tournament Sunday falling to No. 2 USC, 5-0, and coming up just short against No. 7 Stanford, 3-2.Jayelin Lombard and junior Piper Naess then got the Mustangs their first point of the dual after beating Xolani Hodel and Maddi Kriz in three sets, 21-19, 19-21, 17-15.
Stanford took a 2-1 lead in the dual after winning at the No. 5 spot before the Mustangs' No. 3 duo of senior Delaney Peranich and graduate transfer Brooke Golik evened up the dual after a 21-17, 21-10 victory over Maya Harvey and Taylor Wilson.
However, Stanford's No. 1 duo of Charlie Eckstrom and Kate Reilly then won at the No. 1 spot 21-17, 21-16 to secure the dual victory for the Cardinal.
Cal Poly will head to Tucson, Ariz. next weekend where they will take on Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Arizona Christian University, Southern Mississippi, and Arizona.
Starting their day playing the defending national champion Trojans, Cal Poly fell in two sets at all five spots as No. 2 USC collected the 5-0 win.
The Mustangs were then right back in action against the No. 7 Cardinal. In what was a back-and-forth battle the entire dual, Stanford got on the board first after a win at the No. 4 spot. Cal Poly's No. 2 pair of senior
