LOS ANGELES – Starting a weekend of one of the toughest schedules across college beach volleyball, Cal Poly fell in its first two matches Saturday to No. 3 UCLA and No. 6 Grand Canyon by scores of 5-0 at Mapes Pavilion on the campus of UCLA.
Starting its day against the two-time national champion Bruins (10-1), the Mustangs had several pairs with close sets but ultimately fell in two at all five.
Immediately after the dual with UCLA, Cal Poly was back on the courts against the No. 6 Lopes (7-2). Cal Poly also had multiple close sets against GCU, including the Mustangs' No. 3 pairing of senior Delaney Peranich and graduate transfer Brooke Golik who went three sets but came up just short in the third, falling 17-15.
Cal Poly's schedule doesn't get any easier Sunday as the Mustangs will make the drive just south to take on No. 2 USC at 12 p.m. and No. 7 Stanford at 2 p.m.
