Ethan Rotondo upset No. 17 Jason Shaner in a 6-1 decision at 133 pounds, helping Cal Poly to a 19-15 victory over Oregon State on Sunday and the Pac-12 dual meet championship.
Cal Poly Wraps Up Pac-12 Dual Meet Title, Beats Oregon State 19-15
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – For the fourth time this season, Trevor Tinker has provided the points needed in the final match to lead the Cal Poly wrestling team to victory.
Tinker's 8-2 decision over J.J. Dixon in the 285-pound bout capped the No. 28-ranked Mustangs' 19-15 triumph over No. 25 Oregon State on Sunday before 1,291 fans inside Mott Athletics Center.
Cal Poly finished 5-0 in Pac-12 dual meets and 8-6 for the year entering the postseason – the Pac-12 Championship on March 5 at Stanford and the 2023 NCAA Division I National Championship on March 16-18 in Tulsa, Okla.
"Grateful for this group," said Mustang head coach Jon Sioredas. "They have continued to put in a great deal of effort and what we are witnessing is a sheer body of work. I could not be more proud of the collective group for focusing on continued growth and doing so with a great attitude and respect. I cannot wait for the postseason."
Oregon State won the first bout before Cal Poly claimed the next four weight classes for a 13-3 advantage.

wrapped up Cal Poly's 19-15 win over Oregon State.
Oregon State bounced back with three wins, including a fall by Trey Munoz at 184 pounds, giving the Beavers a 15-13 lead with two bouts remaining.
Fifth-ranked Bernie Truax returned the momentum Cal Poly's way with a 7-5 decision at 197 pounds, lifting his mark for the season to 11-1. Truax jumped to a 4-2 lead with a pair of takedowns in the first period and added an escape and takedown in the final period for the win against No. 16 Tanner Harvey.
Tinker, 13-7 on the year following his fall in an 18-15 win over Stanford on Friday night, faced J.J. Dixon in the heavyweight bout.
After a scoreless first period, Dixon escaped for a 1-0 lead in the second period before Tinker notched a pair of takedowns for a 4-2 advantage. He added an escape, another takedown and riding time for the 8-2 triumph, clinching Cal Poly's fifth straight dual meet victory.
"Tinker continues to improve dramatically and his high attack rate makes him a fan favorite at the heavyweight division," said Sioredas. "It feels darn good knowing he is the guy closing out our dual meets. He thrives when the dual is on the line and is it so exciting to watch."
Rotondo was a 6-1 winner over No. 17 Jason Shaner at 133 pounds, scoring a takedown in both the first and second periods and an escape plus riding time in the final stanza.
"That was the swing to win the dual," said Sioredas.
Saenz earned a 12-2 major decision over Damon Elliott at 141, jumping to a 6-0 first-period lead with a takedown and four-point near fall and adding an escape in the second period and two takedowns plus riding time in the final period for the win.
Demas recorded a 3-2 decision over Riley Gurr at 149 with a takedown in the first period and an escape in the second period. Gurr managed escapes in the first and third periods.
Wick shut out Isaiah Crosby at 157 to give Cal Poly its 13-3 lead. Wick earned a takedown in the first period and an escape in the second period. Crosby chose the neutral position for the final period and neither wrestler scored as Wick walked away with the 3-0 win.
Earlier this season, Tinker recorded a fall in the final bout to clinch Cal Poly's 23-15 win over Lock Haven and his 10-2 major decision gave the Mustangs a 19-18 triumph at No. 8 Arizona State.
