Four Eagles Power Cal Poly to 2nd Place in Orange County Classic

FIRST-DAY RESULTS
COTO DE CAZA, Calif. -- Four Cal Poly golfers carded eagles in the opening two rounds of play and the Mustangs are in second place after completing 36 holes in the Orange County Collegiate Classic on Monday at the Coto de Caza's South Course.
Jackson Parrish eagled the 533-yard par-5 18th hole in the second round to move into a tie for fourth place with Mustang teammate Austin Liu and Cal State Fullerton's Garrett Boe, all with one-under-par 143 totals.
Parrish rebounded from an opening-round 77 with a 66 in the afternoon round, two strokes off the school record. Parrish, the transfer from Colorado School of Mines, also shot a 66 in the Marquette Intercollegiate last fall.
In his round of 66 Monday, Parrish carded five birdies and one bogey in addition to the eagle.
Liu eagled the 555-yard sixth hole in the first round and followed his 71 with a 72 for his 143 total on the 6,950-yard par-72 layout.
Ben Quick and Sean Lehman also posted eagles in the first round.
Quick notched his on the sixth hole en route to a 76 and added a 71 in the second round for a 147 total and a tie for 12th place with three other golfers entering Tuesday's final round.
Lehman, competing as an individual, earned his eagle on the 556-yard 12th hole and finished his first round with a 77 before posting an 83 in the second round. He is tied for 50th place with his 160 total.
Cal Poly's other two golfers finished in the top 40 after 36 holes of play.
Parker Mapes carded a career-best 70 and a 79 for a 149 total and 20th-place tie while Baron Szeto recorded a 75 and 79 for a 154 total and 36th-place tie.
Cal State Fullerton, which is co-hosting the 10-team tournament with UC Irvine, leads the field with an 11-under-par 565 aggregate. Cal Poly is 15 shots behind with a 292 and 288 for a four-over-par 580 total and UC San Diego rounds out the top three at 13 over par.
Individual leader after two rounds is Harry Doig of Cal State Fullerton with rounds of 70 and 65 for a nine-under-par 135 total, four shots ahead of UC San Diego's David McDowell (66-73--139). Matthew Schafer of Cal State Fullerton is third at three under par (69-72--141).
Parrish is second in par-5 scoring at five under par while Quick is third in par-4 scoring at even par. Liu finished fourth in par-3 scoring at one under par after 36 holes.
