SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Emma Brown secured United Soccer Coaches All-West Region praise for the third time in her career Tuesday.
The junior defender earned a spot on the All-West Region Second Team for her stellar play on the pitch this fall. With the honor, Brown becomes just the fourth player in Cal Poly women's soccer program history to receive three United Soccer Coaches All-West Region selections, joining Cal Poly Athletics Hall of Famers Kolleen Kassis McNamee and Elise Krieghoff, and 2022-23 Cal Poly Female Athlete of the Year Camille Lafaix.
In 2021 as a freshman, Brown grabbed All-West Region Second Team praise as well, and last year she garnered Third Team honors.
The accolade is just the latest in a remarkable career for the Clovis, Calif. native. This year, Brown became the fifth Mustang in program history to be named Big West Defensive Player of the Year and the first since 2009. She also secured her second straight All-Big West First Team selection, starting in all 21 matches for the Mustangs at center back and racking up nearly 1,837 minutes on the pitch. Brown played every minute in 19 matches this fall and helped Cal Poly post four shutouts.
Last season, the dynamite defender played a pivotal role in the Mustangs' ability to record a program-record seven shutouts in Big West regular season play and the team's most clean sheets overall (10) since 2009. She started in 19 matches as a sophomore, playing all 90 minutes in 18 of them and only getting subbed off in the final 5:52 in a match at CSUN.
Brown has started in 44 consecutive matches for the Mustangs. Across her career, the 2021 Clovis North High grad has started in 57 of the 60 matches she's appeared in, playing nearly 5,140 minutes without receiving a card.
Brown, a Kinesiology major, recently received College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors for the second consecutive year as well.
