Mustangs Fall to No. 6 USC in Final Game of Season Opening Road Trip
11/28/2023 10:23:00 PM | Women's Basketball
LOS ANGELES — Freshman Mary Carter and junior Sydney Bourland each scored in double figures, but Cal Poly fell to No. 6 USC 85-44 Tuesday inside the Galen Center to close out its season-opening seven game road trip.
Carter led the Mustangs (2-5) with 11 points while Bourland added a season-high 10 for Cal Poly, who faced the No. 6 Trojans (6-0) for the first time since 1976. It was the Mustangs' fourth PAC-12 opponent already this season.
USC got off to a fast start, getting out to a 16-3 lead six minutes into the game and held a 13-point advantage after the first quarter.
The Trojans continued to extend the lead from there, up 22 at halftime and then 24 after the third quarter.
With their stretch of seven straight road games to begin the season now behind them, the Mustangs will finally get a chance to play a regular season game at home when they host Fresno State on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. inside Mott Athletics Center. Last season when the two teams faced off in Fresno, Cal Poly won the game on an Annika Shah buzzer beater.
