SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly women's soccer team, which advanced to the Big West Championship match for the second time in the last three seasons this fall, recently signed seven talented student-athletes to National Letters of Intent.
Set to join the Mustangs for the 2024 season are forward Ashley Brewer (San Luis Obispo, Calif.), midfielders Avery Chaney (Clovis, Calif.) and Kiki Vostermans (San Jose, Calif.), defenders Lilly Cole (Woodland Hills, Calif.) and Lauren Collier (San Jose Calif.) and goalkeepers Cara Anderson (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Shannon Porubski (Rocklin, Calif.).
In 2023, the Mustangs set a program record for players to a record a point in a season with 21 and secured at least six victories in Big West play for the third consecutive year — a program first. Cal Poly will look to build off that success in 2024 with the help of these newcomers.
Cara Anderson (GK) · Albuquerque Academy
A three-time First Team All-State selection, Anderson recently led Albuquerque Academy to a runner-up finish at the 2023 NMAA 4A state
championship, making two clutch saves in penalties to help the Chargers reach the state final. The netminder played alongside Cal Poly freshman forward Anna Babinski, who also attended Albuquerque Academy, for several years and also guided the Chargers to a pair of third-place finishes at state in 2021 and 2022.
A multiple-time All-District honoree, Anderson was named to the High School All-American Watch List this season and has participated in the New Mexico Olympic Development Program, serving as a training camp goalkeeper. Anderson, who also plays basketball, plans on majoring in political science at Cal Poly and fell in love with soccer thanks in large part to her older sister, Tessa, who played soccer at St. Olaf College in Minnesota from 2019-22.
Ashley Brewer (F) · San Luis Obispo HS
A local product from San Luis Obispo High, Brewer has tallied 49 goals and 15 assists so far during three seasons as a Tiger, helping the team reach
the CIF Central Section Division II final in 2022 and the Division I quarterfinal in 2023. The striker has led SLO High to three straight Mountain League titles, earning All-League praise every year and high school MVP honors in 2022-23.
While playing for Central Coast United, Brewer has been a part of multiple club league championship teams, guiding the side to an undefeated record in the CSL Premier last season. Brewer, who is majoring in psychology at Cal Poly, raised a State Cup Championship with Central Coast United in 2021 and has received Academic Excellence honors throughout her high school career.
Avery Chaney (MF) · Buchanan HS
An offensive MVP for Buchanan High, Chaney buried 18 goals and tallied 11 assists during her junior season with the Bears to secure First Team All-Tri-River Athletic Conference honors as a team captain. During sophomore season in 2022, she helped Buchanan capture a TRAC title, a CIF Central Section Division I Championship and finish runner-up in the CIF NorCal Regional Division I state playoffs.
Chaney has also earned the Rising Bear Award and Most Spirited Award during her time at Buchanan, helping the team secure multiple TRAC titles. Chaney, who will major in business at Cal Poly, has served as a coordinator for a non-profit organization and was high school teammates with current Cal Poly freshman forward Bailey Bracha for several years. Both of her older sisters played sports at the next level — sister, McKenna, was a member of the Northern Arizona track and field team (2020-22) and sister, Rylie, played soccer at Chico State.
Lilly Cole (D) · Chaminade College Prep
Cole is set to join her older sister, Brennan (currently a sophomore for the Mustangs), on the team next fall. Cole has made quite the name for herself during her Chaminade College Preparatory career, earning the Eagles' Defender of the Year Award twice (2022-23), Mission League Defender of the Year, First Team All-Mission League honors in 2022, Los Angeles Daily News All-Area praise as a junior and a Second Team All-CIF Southern Section Division I selection in 2022.

The 2023 Chaminade College Prep MVP guided the Eagles to the CIF-SS Division I playoffs in 2021 and 2022 and the Division II playoffs in 2023. A 2023 Top Drawer Soccer Player to Watch, Cole also garnered ECNL U16 Southwest All-Conference First Team praise in 2021-22 while playing club for LA Breakers FC. The three-year team captain will pursue a degree in business at Cal Poly and has received maxima cum laude honors throughout high school, serving on the Reach For the Stars Club which helps create events for those with disabilities.
Lauren Collier (D) · Archbishop Mitty HS
While starring at outside back for Archbishop Mitty High, Collier has earned All-West Catholic Athletic League First Team (2022) and Second Team (2023) honors. The San Jose, Calif. native has served as a team captain for the Monarchs, along with the school's field hockey team.
Collier, who has been named to the principal's honor roll throughout high school, also visited Santa Clara, but chose Cal Poly because of the team
culture and chemistry, and the beautiful location. Collier has three brothers and one sister, and they've all motivated and inspired her in her athletic pursuits.
Shannon Porubski (GK) · Rocklin HS
Porubski has started in net for Rocklin High throughout her high school career, securing First Team All-Sierra Foothill League honors three times. As a junior, she led Rocklin to a SFL title and the semifinals in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoffs.
A four-year team captain for Rocklin, Porubski plans on majoring in engineering at Cal Poly and chose to become a Mustang because of the university's academic prestige and the team's great culture. She is also an honors student and plays club for Placer United.
Kiki Vostermans (MF) · Archbishop Mitty HS
Vostermans, who is high school teammates with Lauren Collier in soccer and field hockey, helped Archbishop Mitty capture a section title in 2021 while starring at central midfielder. A team captain for the Monarchs, Vostermans secured All-West Catholic Athletic League Second Team honors as a junior.
While serving as a captain for the FC Bay Area Surf, Vostermans has earned ECNL NorCal Conference All-League First Team praise. Named to the principal's honor roll throughout high school, Vostermans chose Cal Poly because of the community, location, academics and opportunity to play high-level soccer.
