Mustangs Drop Thursday Exhibition Matchup

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Freshman guard Justin Page (above) finished with a team-leading 10 points in his Cal Poly men's basketball debut Thursday evening inside Mott Athletics Center, but the Mustangs fell in an exhibition matchup to Cal State LA, 59-44.
Graduate guard Jarred Hyder and junior forwards Cam Malray and Paul Bizimana each grabbed a team leading six rebounds for Cal Poly, which held Cal State LA to just a solitary field goal during the opening six minutes.
The Mustangs still led with four minutes remaining, 21-17, before Cal State LA closed the opening half with a 13-0 run. The Golden Eagles then opened the second half with one of their nine three-pointers and led by double-digits the remainder of the evening.
Cal Poly opens the 2023-24 regular season – its 30th as a Division I program and 80th as a four-year program – when hosting Division III La Verne on Monday, Nov. 6. Tip-off on ESPN+ is 7 p.m.
