
Cal Poly Sixth after Opening Two Rounds of Alister Mackenzie Invite

FAIRFAX – With two Mustangs sitting among the top 15 players, the Cal Poly men's golf program followed an opening morning round of 13-under par with a second afternoon round of minus-3 to complete Monday action at California's Alister Mackenzie Invitational tied for sixth place in the 14-team field.
With Monday's play comprising the opening two of three total rounds at the par-71, 6,734-yard Meadow Club, Mustang junior Baron Szeto followed a morning-round, four-under 67 with an afternoon 68. He enters Tuesday's final round in 12th place at seven-under par.
Freshman Louis Pilod fired successive 68s and sits 15th at minus-6. Following a morning-round 68, freshman Reese Sato shot even-par 71 in the afternoon and enters Tuesday's final 18 holes in 27th position.
Graduate student Ben Quick followed an opening-round 72 with an afternoon 68 to reach 38th place overall. Jointly tied for 46th are senior Joey Zambri and graduate student Austin Liu, who both fired 68s in the morning before carding 74s to close the afternoon. Cal Poly's remaining entry, junior Parker Mapes, is 69th after an opening-round 72 and closing 74.
As a program, Cal Poly's Monday total of 552 has the Mustangs tied for sixth with fellow Big West program UC Davis.
