Ferch, Connor Win AVCA Pairs Championship Flight in Huntington Beach

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — Cal Poly beach volleyball's Piper Ferch and Ella Connor stormed their way through the competition at the AVCA Pairs Championship in Huntington Beach over the weekend, winning the silver flight championship title. The win earned Cal Poly another automatic bid into this weekend's AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach Championships in Huntsville, Ala. To earn the title, Ferch and Connor, the No. 1 seed in the silver flight, started out by winning their first-round match over Long Beach State's Standage and Westby, 2-0. They then beat UC Davis' McGuire and Miller, 2-1 to advance to the finals. In the finals, they came out on top over Long Beach State's Carrington and Deroos, 2-0 to win the title. Also in the silver flight for the Mustangs, Cal Poly's freshmen pairing of Erin Inskeep and Quinn Perry took home third place after beating Texas' Charles and Parmelly in the first round and UC Davis' McGuire and Miller in the third-place match. Heading to Huntsville this weekend to compete in the AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach Championships against some of the best teams in the country will be Ferch and Connor as well as senior Piper Naess and sophomore Izzy Martinez. The event runs Saturday through Monday.
