Five Mustangs Claim Titles in Menlo College Invitational

earned 125-pound title at Menlo College Invitational.
Dom Mendez, Zeth Romney, Abe Hinrichsen, Cash Stewart and Nathan Glass all earned first-place finishes. In addition, Wesley Wilson finished second and Koda Holeman earned a third-place finish.
Mendez went 3-0 with a decision, fall and a 7-3 decision over Riley Siason of Menlo in the championship final at 125 pounds. Holeman posted a 5-1 mark for third place with three decisions, a technical fall and a fall.
At 141, Romney earned his spot in the final round with a fall and decision, then defeated Michael McGruder in an 11-1 major decision for the title.
Hinrichsen was a 5-3 winner over Michael Asselstine in the 149-pound final after recording a major decision and a decision.
Stewart claimed the 165-pound crown with three decisions, including an 11-6 verdict against Rysan Leong of Menlo in the title match.
Glass needed just two victories to place first at 285, earning a 6-0 decision in the semifinal round and a fall in 3 minutes, 25 seconds, against Michael Ruiz of Vanguard in the finals.
Wilson notched a major decision and two decisions to reach the finals at 197 pounds before dropping an 8-5 decision to Andrew Herrera of Southern Oregon.
Cal Poly's first team continues its schedule of dual meets next Friday at Air Force and Sunday at Northern Colorado.
