Cal Poly Drops 22-12 Dual Meet Decision at Air Force

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Air Force Academy won six of the 10 bouts, including a fall and a major decision, en route to a 22-12 victory over Cal Poly in a non-conference dual wrestling meet Friday night.
Ranked No. 28, the host Falcons clinched the dual meet victory over the No. 24 Mustangs in the final bout as seventh-ranked Wyatt Hendrickson earned a fall in 2 minutes, 2 seconds, after building a 14-2 lead in the first period with three takedowns and a pair of four-point near falls.
Air Force improved to 3-1 while Cal Poly fell to 3-5.
Mustang winners, all by decision, were Lawrence Saenz at 141 pounds, Luka Wick at 157, Brawley Lamer at 174 and Wesley Wilson at 197.
Saenz scored a 6-2 win over Garrett Kuchan with a takedown in the second period and a reversal, penalty point and riding time in the final period.
Wick, a redshirt freshman, was an 8-5 winner over Jack Ganos, tallying a takedown and four-point near fall in the second period and a reversal in the third period.
Lamer notched a 3-0 victory over Gage Musser with an escape in the second period and riding time after riding out Musser in the final period.
Wilson, a true freshman, earned a 5-3 decision over Calvin Sund, pulling Cal Poly to within four points at 16-12 with one bout to go. Wilson recorded a takedown in the first period, a reversal in the second period and an escape in the final period.
Cal Poly was without two of its top wrestlers in 149-pounder Dom Demas and 197-pounder Bernie Truax.
The Mustangs, ranked No. 7 in the initial NCAA Division I Mid-Major Poll this week, wrap up their two-game Colorado road trip Sunday at Northern Colorado, a 30-12 winner over CSU Bakersfield on Friday night.
