SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Falls by No. 5 Dylan Ragusin at 133 pounds and No. 2 Mason Parris at 285 powered No. 4 Michigan to a 30-11 victory over No. 28 Cal Poly in a non-conference dual wrestling meet Friday night before 1,482 fans in Mott Athletics Center.
Coach Jon Sioredas' Mustangs won three of the 10 bouts, including an upset by 174-pounder Brawley Lamer, one of three Lamer brothers to wrestle in the dual.
Unranked, Lamer earned a 6-1 decision over No. 31 Joseph Walker. After a scoreless first period, Lamer tallied an escape and takedown for a 3-0 lead and added another takedown at the buzzer ending the match plus riding time for the victory, improving to 3-5 for the season.
Lawrence Saenz upset No. 20 Cole Mattin in a 4-1 decision.
Cal Poly's other winners were Bernie Truax by technical fall at 197 pounds and Lawrence Saenz by decision at 141.
Truax is now 9-1 on the year, jumping to a 10-1 lead in the first period en route to a 16-1 triumph over unranked Brendin Yatooma.
Ranked No. 8 in his weight class this week, Truax notched a takedown and a pair of four-point near falls in the opening period and added a takedown and two penalty points in the second period for a 14-1 advantage. The redshirt junior from Oceanside completed the technical fall with another penalty point and riding time.
Saenz also earned an upset, defeating No. 20 Cole Mattin in a 4-1 decision to climb to 4-5 on the year. The Fresno State transfer earned the win with a takedown in the first period, an escape in the second period and riding time.
Ragusin earned his fall in 2 minutes, 44 seconds, while Parris is now 14-0 for the season following his pin in 2:38.
Michigan also earned bonus points at 149 as No. 20 Chance Lamer won by injury default against No. 18 Dom Demas. Demas jumped to a 4-1 lead with two quick first-period takedowns. Lamer battled back with three escapes and a takedown for a 5-4 lead before Demas suffered a head injury which resulted in entering concussion protocol with six seconds left in the second period.
Mustang 125-pounder Antonio Lorenzo, ranked 25th, lost a tough 3-2 decision to unranked Jack Medley, a 2020 NCAA qualifier and graduate student at Michigan who is now 11-5 on the year.
The third Lamer brother on the mat Friday night was Cal Poly 165-pounder Legend Lamer. The 30th-ranked wrestler fell 5-2 to sixth-ranked Cameron Amine (4-1).
Cal Poly, 3-4 in dual meets, hits the road next week for matches Friday at Air Force and Sunday at Northern Colorado.
Michigan (4-0) wrestles at CSU Bakersfield on Sunday.
