Mustangs Drop Home Contest to Long Beach State Thursday

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Junior forward Natalia Ackerman led Cal Poly with 11 points and eight rebounds but the Mustangs, plagued by a tough night shooting, fell to Long Beach State at home Thursday, 65-42.
Sophomore guard Jazzy Anousinh finished with eight points and a career-high five assists for the Mustangs (4-9, 1-4 BW), who were held to 27-percent shooting from the field. Senior guard Maddie Willett added with six points, six rebounds, and three steals.
The Beach (8-7, 3-2 BW), who led the entire way, got out to a 10-4 lead to begin the game and held a six point lead after the first quarter. Long Beach State stretched its lead to 15 midway through the second quarter. With three minutes left in the half, five straight points by Ackerman and Anousinh cut the Beach lead to 13.
Long Beach State, who had four players score in double figures, pulled away in the third after going on a 9-3 run to start the second half to go up by 21. From there, Cal Poly never got closer than within 16.
Cal Poly will be back in action Monday when hosting UC Riverside at 5 p.m. inside Mott Athletics Center.
