Mustangs Fall to UC San Diego in Regular Season Finale

LA JOLLA, Calif. — Playing its final regular season game before next week's Big West Conference Tournament, the Cal Poly women's basketball team, who had its usual starters play limited minutes, fell on the road to UC San Diego Saturday, 90-48.
The Mustangs (3-21, 2-13 BWC), who were already locked in as the 10 seed for next week's Big West Tournament in Henderson, Nev. heading into Saturday's game, were led by senior forward Zoe Stachowski's nine points as five players finished with five or more points.
The Tritons (13-14, 10-8 BWC), who are ineligible to make this year's Big West Tournament while they are still in their Division I reclassification, had three players finish in double figures, led by Madison Baxter's 22 points.
UCSD led throughout the entire game. The Mustangs were held to 30-percent shooting from the floor while the Tritons shot nearly 60-percent.
With the regular season now finished, Cal Poly turns its attention to the Big West Tournament at the Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nev. The Mustangs will be the 10 seed and face 7th-seeded Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
Tuesday's game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and GoPoly.com with Chris Sylvester providing live audio play-by-play from Henderson.
Cal Poly has reached the semifinals of the tournament each of the last two seasons. At last year's Big West Tournament, the Mustangs defeated Long Beach State in the quarterfinals before falling to UC Irvine in the semifinals.
