LA QUINTA, Calif. -- Freshman Baron Szeto carded his second straight round of 74 and finished tied for 53rd place, highlighting Cal Poly's performance in The Prestige hosted by UC Davis on the Greg Norman course at PGA West on Wednesday.
Szeto, who recorded an eagle and a birdie in Tuesday's second round, notched two birdies Wednesday en route to a 14-over-par 227 aggregate on the par-71, 7,100-yard course, finishing in a six-way tie for 53rd place.
Also finishing in the top 100 in the 24-team tournament was sophomore Austin Liu, who earned one birdie in a round of 75. He was tied for 98th place with four other golfers, all with 235 totals.
Other final-round scores for Mustang golfers were a 74 by Luke Zambri with two birdies, a 78 by Joey Zambri and a 78 by Will Draper, also with two birdies. Zambri and Draper finished tied for 102nd place while Adam was in 112th place.
Ludvig Aberg of Texas Tech claimed the individual title with a three-under-par 210 total following a final-round 70. Carson Berry of Oregon State was two shots back in second place and Reid Davenport of Vanderbilt was third at 214.
With a 14-under-par four-person 270 total Wednesday, Vanderbilt leaped from fifth place to the team championship with a 16-over-par 868 aggregate. Oregon finished second at 878 and Kansas was third at 881. The 24-team field included 11 in Golfstat.com's top 50/
In a companioin tournament for individuals at Coral Mountain Golf Club, Cal Poly's Drew Kim finished tied for 28th place with rounds of 76, 77 and 72 for a nine-over-par 225 total.
Cal Poly will compete in The Duck hosted by Oregon on March 21-22 at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Oregon.
